Can BuyScout® change a shopper's subscription?

BuyScout® can pause, resume, skip, reschedule, change frequency, cancel, or ask Shopify to email a secure payment-update link when the connected subscription supports the action. BuyScout® explains the change and requires confirmation before acting.

When subscribers ask for help

BuyScout® makes routine subscription self-service available through the store's connected provider.

Pause, resume, or skip

A subscriber has enough product, wants a temporary pause, or is ready to restart. BuyScout® shows the affected delivery and whether the subscription remains active before confirming the action.

Change frequency or the next date

A subscriber wants deliveries less often or needs the next order on another date. BuyScout® presents the new schedule and states when the change takes effect before confirmation.

Cancel or update payment

A subscriber can cancel permanently or ask Shopify to email a secure link for updating an expired or failed payment method. Card details stay on Shopify's secure page and out of the chat.

How subscription management works

BuyScout® reads the current subscription, explains the requested change, and confirms it before acting.

Read the current subscription

BuyScout® checks the current status, delivery frequency, next order date, and supported actions available for that subscription.

Explain the consequence

The AI Store Agent explains which delivery, date, frequency, or pause status will change, whether cancellation is permanent, or that Shopify will email a secure payment-update link.

Confirm or hand off

BuyScout® carries out a supported, confirmed action through the connection or routes unsupported billing and policy exceptions to the merchant.

Skipping one recurring order

Shopper:

I have enough for this month. Can I skip my next shipment?

BuyScout®: Checking the subscription and next shipment
BuyScout®:

Your subscription supports skipping the August 18 shipment. The subscription would continue with the following scheduled order. Confirm the skip?

Shopper:

Yes, skip August 18.

BuyScout®: Skipping the August 18 shipment
BuyScout®:

Confirmed. The August 18 shipment is skipped, and the subscription remains active for the next scheduled order.

OutcomeThe shopper understands exactly which shipment changes and keeps the subscription active.

What BuyScout® uses automatically

Available subscription actions

BuyScout® uses supported subscription actions by default. Merchants can optionally restrict individual actions, and the connected provider confirms whether a submitted change succeeds.

Current subscription state

BuyScout® checks the current status, delivery frequency, next order date, and available subscription details before presenting a change.

Optional merchant controls and guidance

Supported subscription actions are enabled by default. Merchants can restrict them or add policy and billing guidance in BuyScout® Dashboard.

How Subscription Management works automatically

BuyScout® uses the store's connected subscription provider automatically. Merchants can optionally restrict supported actions.

  1. Use available actions

BuyScout® starts with the actions available for the current subscription, excluding any the merchant has restricted.

  2. Check the current state

BuyScout® reads the current subscription and explains which date, frequency, or delivery will change, or whether cancellation is permanent, before offering the action.

  3. Confirm and act

BuyScout® shows the exact consequence, requires shopper confirmation, and reports completion only when the provider confirms success.

  4. Use optional merchant controls

Merchants can restrict supported actions or add exception guidance in BuyScout® Dashboard.

Subscription boundaries and handoff

Provider availability, the current subscription state, and merchant permissions determine which changes can be completed.

  • Support depends on the provider An action available through one subscription provider may not exist through another. BuyScout® reports a provider rejection instead of claiming that the change succeeded.
  • Billing needs extra care BuyScout® asks Shopify to email a secure payment-update link while keeping card details out of the chat. Refunds, proration, taxes, and disputes move to the merchant when judgment is required.
  • Every action needs confirmation BuyScout® states the affected subscription and effective date before submitting a skip, pause, reschedule, frequency change, or cancellation.

Frequently asked questions

BuyScout® can pause or resume a subscription, skip the next delivery, change delivery frequency, change the next order date, cancel the subscription, or ask Shopify to email a secure payment-update link when the connected subscription supports the action.

BuyScout® does not claim success after a provider or store-policy cutoff. BuyScout® explains the limitation and notifies store support when an exception may be possible.

BuyScout® states the affected subscription and confirmed consequence first. Resuming reactivates a paused subscription, while cancellation is permanent and requires explicit confirmation.

BuyScout® asks Shopify to email the shopper a secure link for updating the payment method on Shopify's page. Card numbers stay on Shopify's secure page and out of the chat.

BuyScout® uses available connected details to identify the subscription and states which one a requested action would affect. If the connection cannot distinguish it reliably, BuyScout® does not submit the change.

BuyScout® does not report completion when the subscription provider returns a failure. BuyScout® explains the failed attempt and notifies store support with the requested action and available context.
